Many who read Heaven and Nature Sing might wonder how we can believe as we do. Was the universe created by an all-knowing, all-powerful God? And not only created, but does this God continue to be involved in it and have purpose for it…and us?
If you’re honestly searching for answers to these questions, here are some suggested resources for you to dig into:
Books
There are so many great books by high-level Christian scientists that are written in (mostly) everyday language. They cover life, physics, chemistry, genetics and more. There are also many excellent books on apologetics—why we believe what we do.
Here are a few to get you started:
Undeniable: How Biology Confirms our Intuition that Life is Designed by Douglas Axe, PhD. Axe is a molecular biology professor at Biola University, among other credentials. This is a fairly non-technical book intended for the lay person.
Return of the God Hypothesis by Stephen C. Meyer, PhD. A former geophysicist, Meyer is now director of Discovery Institute’s Center for Science and Culture. (I haven’t read this one yet, or any by Meyer, but have watched and listened to many of his interviews).

Genetic Entropy and the Mystery of the Genome by Dr. JC Sanford. A PhD and former Cornell University professor. This book is a little more technical than Undeniable, but quite fascinating if you like the microscopic world of genetics. Reportedly a former Atheist.
God’s Crime Scene: A Cold-Case Detective Examines the Evidence for a Divinely Created Universe by J. Warner Wallace. Wallace isn’t a scientist, but a cold-case homicide detective and also a former Atheist. He’s also an artist, and drew the many illustrations in the book. Very interesting and an easy read.
The Story of Reality: How the world began, how it ends and everything important that happens in between by Gregory Koukl. This book isn’t specifically about origins, but a straightforward and very readable book on Christian apologetics. In fact, it’s one of the simplest, clearest defenses of Christianity out there. Koukl is the founder and President of Stand to Reason.
Films
Against the Tide: Finding God in an Age of Science—with Oxford professor Dr. John Lennox and actor/producer Kevin Sorbo. This film features Dr. Lennox who argues that there is an intelligent God behind the universe, and He is the God of Christianity. Here’s the trailer:
Universe Designed is a film in-the-making by filmmaker (and another former Atheist), Michael Ray Lewis. It looks amazing! He’s soliciting donations to help with the project as of now (November 2022), and has already interviewed many high-level Christian scientists and apolegists (some on this page).
Unlocking the Mystery of Life by Illustra Media is an older film interviewing several of the scientists who’ve been active in the Intelligent Design field for several decades. Here’s the trailer (the full film is on several different YouTube Channels, or the DVDs are available through Illustra Media):
Organizations
These are organizations we know of that have scads of resources about intelligent design/creation that’s accessible to the average person.
(Note: Some of these hold to “old earth” creationism and some to “new earth” creationism—so they don’t agree on everything. They all know more than most of us, though!)
Discovery Institute—They tackle several huge topic areas, with Intelligent Design being one of them. “We are the institutional hub for scientists, educators, and inquiring minds who think that nature supplies compelling evidence of intelligent design.” Dr. Stephen Meyer and many other contributors.
Reasons to Believe—“We make every effort to help people discover that sound reason and scientific research consistently affirm the truth of the Bible and of the Good News it reveals.” Dr. Hugh Ross and team.
Institute for Creation Research—“For over five decades, the Institute for Creation Research has equipped believers with evidence of the Bible’s accuracy and authority through scientific research, educational programs, and media presentations, all conducted within a thoroughly biblical framework.” Staffed by several PhD-level scientists in several disciplines.
Answers in Genesis—“Answers in Genesis is an apologetics ministry dedicated to enabling Christians to defend their faith and to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ effectively. We focus particularly on providing answers to questions surrounding the book of Genesis…” Founder Ken Ham, also a prolific author and the founder of Creation Museum and Ark Encounter.
Podcasts/Video Interviews
Why This Atheist Scientist Became a Believing Christian • Capturing Christianity (YouTube). An interview with Dr. Sy Garte, a retired biochemist and (another) former Atheist. Isn’t it amazing how the Lord uses science to speak to scientists? Here’s another more recent one, his interview with Sean McDowell.
Stephen Meyer on Intelligent Design and The Return of the God Hypothesis • Hoover Institute (YouTube). The same Dr. Meyer whose books are listed above.
The Discovery Science YouTube channel has tons of videos. There’s whole set of fun cartoon-style overviews of biological processes like this one: The Basic Building Blocks & the Origin of Life. They simplify complex scientific discoveries for lay people like us.
